The Bobbin

The Bobbin pub, situated at Cable Street, Lancaster (opposite Sainsburys near the bus station), is a pub that in recent years has undergone various stages of development. If hand-pulled cask beers are your bag then this could be the pub for you. It features a well stocked bar including fruit wines and beers, an array of ciders; Stowford Press and Old Rosie augmented by in recent weeks the addition of Perry. A good selection of spirits is also available. On the cask ale front they always have Beacon and ÔBobbinÕ bitter available, which sit alongside guest beers from various breweries. It has been awarded a cellar of the year award from MitchellÕs Brewery (who run the pub). Inside is spacious with seating throughout, except of course by the pool table. Matt the landlord, also responsible for ÔThe DarkplaceÕ, has been in situ for a few years now and this year has really put time and effort into making the pub a place to eat, drink and be merry. Food is served daily until 3pm and you can choose from a list of starters, sandwiches, hot paninis, mains, burgers and jackets Ð throw into this mix a selection of home cooked specials all at a very reasonable price. Everything on the menu is below £5. Recently a beer garden has just been opened up at the back of the pub and is surprisingly quiet considering its closeness to the main road. By night the Bobbin is quite different to its daytime persona with live bands on a weekly basis and regular pub quizzes Over the weekend a multitude of people frequent this oasis in preparation for a night of clubbing in and around Lancaster. Music is supplied via a jukebox when there are no live acts and the general theme of the music is Rock, though I must stress that this is not the only music youÕll hear. The clientele is friendly and no matter what time of day you go in you will receive a warm welcome from staff and customers alike. The Bobbin also hosts regular beer festivals where you can try beers, lagers ciders and wines from various breweries. These usually feature live music throughout the day too - these are events not to be missed!
